General
The Trident Maple is a popular choice for bonsai training. It's fast growth, thick trunk, nice root formation, Fall colors, small leaves, and easy maintenance are some of the reasons for it's popularity.

Typical Styles
Formal Upright (Chokkan)
Informal Upright (Moyogi)
Root Over Rock (Sekijojo)
Groupings (Gohon Yose, Nanahon Yose, Kyuhon Yose)

Sun and Temperature
Full sun to partial sun.
In winter, protect roots from frost.

Watering
Daily during growing season and warm weather. Water very little during Winter dormancy.

Feeding
Once a week for the first month then biweekly through Summer.

Pruning/Wiring
Prune new growth back to two sets of leaves. Leaf pruning in mid-summer to reduce leaf size.

Repotting
Annually in early Spring before buds open.

Propagation
Propagate from seeds (Fall), softwood cuttings (mid-Summer), hardwood cuttings (late Winter), and air layering (Spring).

Pests
Few pests except catepillars.
