General
The Chinese Elm is a small tree with extensive roots and fine twig structure.
The varieties used for bonsai have small leaves which do not drop easily. The
tree will remain evergreen in warmer climates. A popular variety is the
'Catlin'.

Root Over Rock (Sekijojo)

Sun and Temperature
Partial to full sun. Protect roots from frosts.
Watering
Daily watering in growing season and do not let the soil dry completely.
Feeding
Feed every two weeks from bud break until Fall. Cut back for more mature trees.
Pruning/Wiring
Prune to shape when possible (or wire with extreme caution). Leaf prune in Mid
Summer if leafs are biffer than desired.
Repotting
Repot annually in free-draining soil.
Propagation
From soft wood or hard wood cuttings in early Summer or root cuttings in
Winter.
Pests
Aphids, scale.
