Morten
Albek
Morten Albek is a dedicated Shohin-bonsai artist, and offers workshops
and demonstrations with Shohin-bonsai as a subject, as well as larger
bonsai. Workshops is given with a high focus on developing the individual
students own style, and with special attention on the trees health
during the process of styling.
Shohin-bonsai
& bonsai demos and workshops
Shohin-Bonsai demonstrations and lectures are offered, with high
focus on design and care. In order to succeed Shohin-Bonsai demands
other aesthetic considerations of design elements, as well as a
high degree of detailed work, when compared to larger bonsai.
The
health and care are also important points, when teaching about Shohin-Bonsais,
and this will be brought into the overall program of teaching by
Morten Albek.
In
workshops, Shohin-bonsai gives a certain possibility to work concentrated
in groups, which gives a special concentrated and joyful atmosphere
to the workshops.
Shohin-Bonsai
workshop forms
One form is to start with equal raw material, and develop the first
step to a Shohin from a nursery stock. Another workshop form is
to let the students bring in their own material. It can be pre-bonsai,
developed Shohin-bonsai that needs correction or redevelopment,
or it can be raw collected plant material. All workshops are focused
on design, but with equal care of maintaining and developing the
Shohin-Bonsai in the future.
Demonstrations
Morten Albek offers demonstrations of a variety of trees, both Shohin-Bonsai
and larger trees, all with evergreens as the prime target. An evergreen
gives the audience far more to learn from, because of the possibility
to create an instant well finished result.
Powertools
are only used when necessary; because handcrafted work gives a more
accurate and natural look.
Background
Morten Albek has performed the art of bonsai since 1993, and written
a large number of articles for the Danish Bonsai Society, and international
bonsai magazines.
Albek
has a special focus on the designing of bonsai in a natural way.
During travels to Japan he also seeks new inspiration as well as
information around other enthusiasts, exhibitions, and demos as
well.
Albek
won the Danish New Talent competition in 2001, and represented Denmark
at the EBA NTC in 2002 in Trevarez, France. In 2003 Morten Albek
won a competition between the last 10 winners of the NTC in Denmark.
Albek
is travelling both national and international as a bonsai artist,
performing demonstrations and workshops. Morten Albek is examined
Gardener, graduated with maximum characters. Albeks primary job
is to work as a photographer at TV2/Fyn in Denmark.
The
collection of Morten Albek
Albeks own collection of bonsais is varied, but the favourite expression
is on the lighter bonsai styles, rather than the very heavy clumpy
styles that have been modern in Europe the last years. This is due
to the nature Morten Albek seeks, and finds pleasure in.
The
collection is not a collector’s one. Albek seeks the quality in
his bonsais, and not the quantity. It is more important, he finds,
to be able to maintain and develop higher quality, rather than growing
a big collection.
Shohin-bonsai
Shohin-Bonsai, styles and techniques, displaying i.e. has a special
place in the bonsai world of Morten Albek, but this is absolutely
not keeping bigger bonsai at a distance.
Junipers
and Pines
Although Shohins fills the main picture on the website www.shohin-europe.com,
Albek is also very keen to bigger bonsai, especially Pines and Junipers.
